what is vocaloid?

VOCALOID is a vocal synthesizing program that has been available for purchase since 2004. The program and its succeeding versions are comprised of voicebanks from various different voice actors, and the characters that are assigned to each voicebank are called vocaloids, who are developed and distributed by different companies. The most popular company is Crypton Future Media, Inc.Because the voicebanks are widely available, there is a vast community of musicians ("producers"), who's songs can often have long story lines that span across music videos or albums. A popular example of this Kagerou Project by the producer Jin (wiki here).

The Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA video game series began with the first Project DIVA game, released for the PSP in 2009, and was later made available on the PS3 through Dreamy Theatre which was a software that allowed the player to connect the PSP with the home console for play. The second game, Project DIVA Arcade, was released in 2010 with updated graphics and new songs. Subsequent entries were available on the PSP, PS Vita, PS3, 3DS (under "Project Mirai"), PS4, VR, and mobile devices. The first game to be localized for the West was Miku Flick, a mobile game, then Project Diva F for the PSV.

PPD
Project "Project DXXXX" (PPD or PPDXXX) is a fan-made PC port of Project Diva that was released in 2010 to emulate the gameplay of the Project Diva Series. Since the game had not been localized at this point, people relied on importing, hacking, and PPD in order to experience the game. PPD relies on the songpacks that users upload, often including fan-arranged beatmaps.
